There is a set price for the box size required to ship the flying saucer wheel, which allows for a greater weight to be shipped than the actual weight of the wheel. There are additional spaces inside the box around the wheel. We are Canada's Authorized Distributor for the Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel; designed and manufactured by Meadowbrooks Chinchillas in the United States. We feel this is the best small animal exercise wheel available and is the only exercise wheel we use at Flower Town Chinchillas.
Meadowbrook Chinchillas developed a wonderful exercise wheel. It went through 10 months of prototype development and testing. Dr. Marty Hull invented this wheel to provide a safe exercise outlet for chinchillas and other small animals. Wheels with slats, bars, cross members, spokes, open wire mesh or screen often result in serious injury to the animals. Feet, legs or heads may be trapped or snared. Since rodents are nocturnal, most injury will occur at night. If a foot becomes trapped, the animal may chew it off to escape. This wheel has no openings, slats or sharp edges where injury can occur. And it also really works well for exercise.
Adult Chinchilla's and weanlings of 6 to 8 weeks old often share or alternate using the Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel. While one is running, the other may jump over the runner and land in the centre of the wheel. The runner will usually jump off as the other chin slides down and begins running. They trade back and forth. They run in either direction, change direction while on the wheel and learn to start, stop, mount and dismount the wheel with great expertise. Some seem to enjoy the thrill of suddenly stopping and then riding the saucer around. The standard Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel handles animals from 4 ounces up to 2-1/2 pounds.

Please remove the Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel prior to your pet chinchilla giving birth. Adult chinchilla's can generate very high wheel speeds. If a newborn chinchilla is exploring and an adult starts up the wheel, the kit could get thrown and injured.
The Standard size Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel will fit through a cage door 9" x 12" or 10" x 10". While only 14 inches in diameter, the running path has an effective diameter equivalent to a 22-inch diameter drum type wheel. The greater effective diameter allows animals to use longer strides and run faster than ever before. Many cages do not have a door opening to allow a large size drum type wheel that a chinchillas size dictates it should have. It is not healthy for your chinchilla to run on a drum type wheel that is too small for your pet as this causes them to run with an unnaturally arched back and can cause possible spinal problems later in their lifetime.

The Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel is a simple, clean, strong construction using the metal spinning process. The dish is axle-mounted on two pressed, flanged ball bearings for stability and durability. Dishes are constructed of galvanized steel. A standard 3/8-inch diameter bent solid metal cage hanger bracket, standard mounting hardware of three U-bolts, plates and nuts are included.
New Bearing Dust Covers: All Flying Saucer Exercise Wheels now ship with bearing dust covers. Dust covers greatly increase bearing life. Protects bearing from dust, moisture, and animal urine.
A Free extra bearing is also included with each Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel.
